“Robin Hood” Pandey is back with Dabangg 2, the sequel to its blockbuster in 2010, with Arbaaz Khan stepping in to the Director’s shoes and retaining his cap of being the producer along with Mallaika Arora Khan. The movie promises to be a thorough entertainer filled with action, romance, fun, comedy, trademark Chulbul Pandey’s witty dialogues and characteristic dance sequences that only Salman khan can manage to pull.
After making Laalgunj a safe haven, Chulbul Pandey ( Salman Khan- for the newbie’s to Bollywood) story shifts to Kanpur. Chulbul Pandey moves along with his family to Kanpur in a bid to make it big in the big city (Terms of Income for the Robin Hood). He mends the broken pieces of family values and soon strikes terror in the heart of criminals. This doesn’t go too well with the criminal aspiring politician to be - Bacccha Bhai (Prakash Raj) and his brothers Chunni (Niketan Dheer) and Genda (Deepak Dobriyal).
Sooner than later the infamous trio Chulbul Pandey’s actions are affecting them, they decide to issue a warning to Chulbul Pandey by threatening his father Pandey (Vinod Khanna) through Genda. When Genda tries to ruin his love interest’s wedding (Played By Mahi Gill), Chulbul seeks this opportunity to make it even with Genda for threatening his father and is killed in the process.
This unfolds the rivalry between Baccha Bhai and Chulbul to menacing proportions which threatens Chulbul Pandey’s family. Further story reveals itself in a predictable climax.
Analysis:
Dabangg 2 thought not as appealing as its former self nevertheless is a good watch for Salman Khan’s fans, the story of the Good Bad Cop’s rivalry towards his political adversary though nothing new to Bollywood, is nevertheless a good time pass entertainer thanks to its action sequences and the stereotypical Salman Khan’s Dabanng style . Story Plot could have been better.
Performances:
It’s Sallumania that grips the film, his histrionics are worth watching, the lucky mascot Sonakshi Sinha does not have enough screen space to show her acting prowess (Something she has been deprived of late ) and is in a brand new bold avatar . The talented Prakash Raj acting as Bacccha Bhaiya is very well played though may not be as memorable as Jaikanth Shikdey in Singham, just wished we could see more of him. , The evil brothers Niketan Dheer as Chunni and Deepak Dobriyal as Genda are well done but fail to match up with Sonu Sood’s physicality and notoriety (Funny Names though ) . Munni does a guest appearance in “Pandeyji Seethi “, songs are not as memorable as its prequel while action sequences are good. Rest of the cast fit well with the movie
Music: -
Sajid Wajid continue to strike the right notes, however one cannot help but feel that the movie’s music is overdone and are bit loud, Item number “Fevicol Se” characteristic to its name is bonding to people’s senses , “ Pandeyji Seethi “is something you feel like whistling to while the rest are average
Technicalities:
Dilip Shukla’s continues to pen for this sequel though nothing new to the age old tradition of Cop and his politically motivated nemesis, Arbaaz Khan directorial venture is pretty descent, using slow motion shots to provide a unique effect. Ganesh Acharya and Farah Khan choreography is outstandingly good to match the Dabaang style. Aseem Mishra’s cinematography catches the Kanpur flavor but only in bits, Editing by Hemal Kothari could have been better.
